5.02 Delta Analyses

What is a delta analysis?

A delta analysis is a colored representation of deformations of the point cloud compared to a given plane. Use it to analyze the facade of old buildings, easily spot possible distortions, and make conclusions for the modeling.

BIMmTool Pro offers a native generation of delta analyses via the Delta functions of the BIMmTool Palette.

Vertical delta analysis

Run a vertical delta analysis to discover distortions of a vertical building component compared to a vertical plane. It results in a color-transition image.

Activate the Vertical Delta command in the BIMmTool Palette.

Draw the contour line of the reference plane.

Define the projection clipping box's lower and upper edge height in the Archicad info box.

Click Calculate to generate the delta analysis.

Horizontal delta analysis

Run a horizontal delta analysis to discover distortions of a horizontal building component compared to a horizontal plane. It results in a color-transition image.

Delta Analysis library element settings

BIMmTool has a dedicated library that loads automatically into Archicad after installing BIMmTool. The delta analysis boundary boxes and their associated functions are stored as library elements in the BIMmTool Library. You can modify the parameters of the individual elements just like you do with a generic Archicad object.

Select your delta analysis boundary box and open the object settings in Archicad.

You can review the settings to your delta analysis object under the Custom Settings tab of the Object settings dialog box.

Its first page "Delta settings" allows you to modify

  • the name of the selected delta analysis object.
  • The depth of the analysis range.
  • The pixel size used for generating the delta analysis.
  • The number of pixels per image tile, where the tile size is fixed in 5,00 meter x 5,00 meter squares.

On the "Appearance 1" page for vertical delta analyses or "Appareance" page for horizontal delta analyses, you can define the projection plane representation:

  • Pen color.
  • Line type.
  • Surface material.

On the "Appearance 2" page for vertical delta analyses, you can set the arrow parameters on the floor plan:

  • Width.
  • Height.
  • Distance from projection line.
  • Fill properties.
